Seastone Papers is a 1700 square foot post and beam barn studio situated on three acres of island woodlands on Christiantown Road in West Tisbury. It sits facing a magnificent beech grove. The studio is a two story wet and dry facility for papermaking, surface designing, and book arts. The wet studio is equipped with a two pound Hollander beater, hydropulper, Reina paper drying box, hydraulic press, compressor, pulp sprayer, and various moulds including a 30” by 40” pulp pouring mould. The dry studio has equipment for book making including Dahle and Kutrimmer paper and board cutters, a Renz wire binding machine, and several book presses.

Open Studio

For those with some papermaking experience, Seastone Papers offers open studio for up to four participants each Friday during the summer months. Additionally, open studio can be scheduled at other times for individuals working on artist projects. Prior consultation is required.

Fee: $40 per person per hour/$220 per day
Work Hours/Time: Up to six hours per day with 1/2 hour included for clean-up.

Individual and group private classes in various aspects of papermaking or book arts can be scheduled at Seastone Papers.

Make Your Own Invitations

Seastone Papers offers studio rental with instruction for groups of up to four adults to make sheets of handmade paper for invitations. The fee includes prior consultation, instruction in sheet formation, two pounds of prepared cotton/abaca pulp, full time assistance throughout, and drying of completed invitations. You may supply your own botanical inclusions or we can provide them for an additional fee.

Fee: $60 per hour / $360 per day
Work Hours/Time: 10:00 to 4:00, which includes 1/2 hour for clean-up.
